There are few better places than Lindau and its surroundings for welcoming springtime as it bursts into life. While the nearby mountains are still capped with snow, the budding trees reach out to the warmth of the sun before bursting into a riot of springtime colour. In our season, the changing seasons are punctuated by the blossom on the fruit trees.
Summer in Lindau
The climate is so mild that we even have palm trees, which give the island a Mediterranean feel. On days when the heat shimmers across the cobblestones, what could be better than an ice cream and a refreshing dip in the lake? Relax and enjoy the mild summer evenings in an outdoor bar or with a picnic on the lakeside wall that runs along the Hintere Insel (the rear part of the island).
A pleasant breeze is guaranteed when you take a trip on a ferry or sightseeing boat. From April to October, local boat operators offer a wide selection of destinations and round trips. If you feel like a nostalgic trip down memory lane, take a trip on the Hohentwiel, the only paddle steamer still operating on the lake. However you decide to travel on the lake, you will be thrilled by the breathtaking view of the mountains and the seemingly endless expanse of the lake.
People have been drawn to the natural beauty of Lake Constance for generations. In the mid-19th century, many well-to-do people decided to build elegant villas along the shores of the lake, many of which remain today. This led to Lindau becoming known as the “Bavarian Riviera”, and this still applies today!
