When the sky is cloudless, the sun gives everything and the water glitters so beautifully turquoise-blue, Lake Constance invites you to swim, take a SUP or go on a boat tour. But don’t underestimate the inland lake during thunderstorms and foehn: Because Lake Constance is capricious, sometimes even insidious and because of its basin location below the Alps, it quickly becomes a danger for water rats and sportsmen when the weather changes.

Lindau is also the ideal starting point for those who prefer to go on foot – for short or long tours, along the lake, to the hills of the foothills of the Alps or to the rugged peaks of the surrounding mountains. Nordic walkers can look forward to a route network of around 130 kilometers.
On land there are also the best conditions for sporting activities. Excursions by bike are extremely popular: with your own or a rented bike you can, for example, follow the Lake Constance cycle path or discover your own route in the surrounding area.
Those who like sports can play tennis in an indoor or outdoor arena, and golfers will also get their money’s worth in Lindau and the surrounding area. Two mini-golf courses are available for the youngsters near the island.

Granted: When you hear “island city”, the first thing that comes to mind is not steep ski slopes and groomed cross-country trails. When it comes to Lindau, however, you should do exactly that – because friends of winter sports reach their destination here faster than many people think.
After all, we have the mountains of the Allgäu as well as the Austrian Vorarlberg and Switzerland right on our doorstep! Many destinations can be reached comfortably by bus and train, so you can enjoy the trip through the often snow-covered mountains in a relaxed manner.
