Lake Constance is Germany’s largest and deepest lake in terms of area. Its area of around 536 kilometres offers plenty of space for fun on the water. That’s why a boat ride should definitely be part of your holiday experience. From Lindau you have many options to experience the beauty of the “Swabian Sea” on a boat trip.

Time out on the water

The so-called “White Fleet” is the core of Bodensee-Schiffbetriebe GmbH (BSB). The boats take you to numerous places around Lake Constance from April to October. On board
of the regular scheduled ships, you can travel via Friedrichshafen to Constance or Überlingen while enjoying the sea breeze and the view. All information about the timetable can be found here.

If you would like to discover the border triangle and the shore lines on a round trip, you also have several options to choose from. Several ships depart from Lindau. You will be amazed how long the “Swabian Sea” stretches and how far you can let your gaze wander!

Scheduled boat services

In the period from Easter to mid-October the scheduled ships (“Kursschiff”) Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe GmbH (BSB) and Vorarlberg Lines connect the towns at Lake Constance by water. Several times a day, the ports of Bregenz to Lindau, Wasserburg, Nonnenhorn, via Kressbronn, Langenargen, Friedrichshafen, Immenstaad, Hagnau, Meersburg to Constance, the island of Mainau and Überlingen are served.

Take advantage of the attractive combined offers (boat trip + admission to popular attractions) for the Pfänderbahn, the Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen, Meersburg Castle, Mainau Island, Sealife Constance and the Lake Dwelling Museum Unteruhldingen to explore the Lake Constance region.

From mid-June to the beginning of September, the fast route from Bregenz via Lindau, Meersburg, Mainau to Constance is served – a trip with this ship will save you about one hour compared to travelling by car and other shipping lines.

Culinary boat rides

Take a leisurely boat trip across Lake Constance and enjoy a drink and a tasty meal? You can do this on the numerous culinary boat trips, many of which start in Lindau at Lake Constance.

In addition to certain theme evenings with a focus on enjoyment, there are also interesting seasonal offers. On Advent weekends, for example, the fondue ship sets sail from Lindau, where you can feast on a delicious cheese or broth fondue while enjoying the sight of the Lake Constance shore illuminated at night.

Noble historical ambience

A wonderful experience is also a trip with the ships of the “Historische Schifffahrt Bodensee”. The Austrian shipping company operates both the Art Deco ship “Motorschiff Oesterreich” and the only paddle steamer at Lake Constance, the “Hohentwiel”.

Between April and October, both ships offer numerous different trips – many of the trips start and end in Lindau harbour.

Fast connection across the lake

If you want to travel quickly from Germany to Switzerland, you can use the ferry between Friedrichshafen and Romanshorn. It runs every hour throughout the year. Drivers can save around 70 kilometres of road by taking the short cut via the ferry – you can get from one country to another in 45 minutes.

There is also a ferry connection between Meersburg and Constance, which saves you the trip around Lake Überlingen. The crossing to Konstanz and back takes 15 minutes and is available all day long.

If you would like to discover Constance from Friedrichshafen, the best way is to use the catamaran: it takes you to the other shore within 52 minutes and also runs all year round.
