Sii, losed Si emool. Si ässid aber, wani gsieh, toppelt so vill wie eri Vorgängeri! Answer: Da ischt gäär nöd schlimm, i wird au nu halb so lang doobliibe!“ Did you get the joke? Only if you understand Swiss dialect!
The Appenzell region is easy to get to by public transport. And even if you don’t understand the jokes, the Appenzeller Witzwanderweg (Joke Trail) is a great place to stretch your legs and enjoy the scenery. The 8.5-km route passes through the beautiful villages and countryside of the Appenzell region. 80 boards line the trail, giving information about the route between Heiden and Walzenhausen.
The walk takes around 3 hours and there’s also plenty to keep the kids amused, including two playgrounds in Wolfhalden and Walzenhausen. The route between Heiden and Wolfhalden is also suitable for pushchairs. If you get hungry there are plenty of restaurants and pubs along the way. And if you don’t want to walk the whole route, you can simply hop on the post bus for part of the way.
