Excellent air, exquisite wine: visitors to Nonnenhorn can enjoy themselves to the fullest. The climatic health town between Wasserburg and Kressbronn is particularly renowned for its fine wines – and you should not miss out on them during your stay in this Bavarian town. Visitors from Lindau can reach Nonnenhorn in just ten minutes by train, and the town is also quick and easy to reach by bike – making it ideal for a short trip.
Relax in idyllic surroundings
A climatic health resort means relaxation – and Nonnenhorn offers plenty of opportunities for this. Kilometres of cycling and hiking trails invite you to explore the surrounding area and the town itself. On a stroll through the town, you can discover the 13th-century Gothic St. Jakobus Chapel, which is shaded by a gigantic sequoia tree.
One of Nonnenhorn’s highlights is the large, heated lido, which not only offers fun in the water but also a fascinating view of the Alpine panorama. To relax and recharge your batteries, you can then settle down in a romantic, rustic café or a small restaurant. Many of the establishments are surrounded by fruit trees and vineyards.
Centuries-old grapevines and wine presses
Monks planted the first grapevines in Nonnenhorn as early as 875. Since then, many residents of the village have devoted themselves to producing fine wines. Evidence of this can be found, for example, in the Nonnenhorn wine press – one of the oldest wine presses in the region. It was built in 1591 and grapes were processed in it for the last time in 1955. Since the end of the 1970s, the wine press with its 400-centner wooden press beam has been a listed building. From the end of April to the end of October, guided tours of the historic wine press and wine tastings are offered every Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Those who want to delve deeper into the world of wine and fruit can walk the 3.6-kilometre-long gourmet trail with information boards on the most important apple and grape varieties.
Nonnenhorn Fish Hatchery
The state-run Nonnenhorn Fish Hatchery is an important and necessary institution that releases countless fish into Lake Constance every year. As the lake’s water becomes increasingly clean, measures such as these must be taken to secure the population of around 35 native fish species. The most well-known fish in Lake Constance include char, pike and whitefish.
