The Hundertwasser Art Forum invites visitors to experience Hundertwasser’s work in all its diversity and visionary power. Until 2030, this unique institution will be dedicating an exclusive series of four exhibitions with different focal points to one of the most important artists of our time. The current exhibition, “The Art of Diversity”, from 28 March 2026 to 10 January 2027, invites visitors to discover the graphic work of Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

The special exhibition

With “The Art of Diversity”, the Hundertwasser Art Forum is dedicating itself to a central facet of his artistic work: printmaking. Hundertwasser mastered classical techniques such as lithography, screen printing and etching, as well as innovative processes, which he expanded to include photolithography, embossed printing and fluorescent colours. Working closely with printers, he created complex works with extraordinary luminosity, haptic depth and ever-changing colour variations.

For the first time, the exhibition offers a comprehensive look behind the scenes of Hundertwasser’s original artwork. On display are printing blocks, design plates, handwritten notes, photographs and test prints that illustrate the experimental and multi-layered creative process behind his works. The exhibition highlights how Hundertwasser understood printmaking as an independent art form – as a space of boundless diversity that cannot be achieved by the painter’s brush alone.

The artist about himself

To be happy, a person does not need external wealth but an inner wealth of the soul.

A visionary:
Friedensreich Hundertwasser

Hundertwasser was a romantic utopian, unconventional outsider and ecological visionary whose work continues to fascinate to this day.

With sustainable building projects and his art, he united nature, people and creativity into a harmonious whole. His architecture emphasises romanticism, individuality and environmental awareness, while his writings and actions called for the protection of nature and its return to everyday life.

His uncompromising lifestyle, characterised by frugality and independence, created space for artistic freedom. His commitment to the development of individual creativity makes him a symbolic figure of non-conformist, environmentally oriented initiatives, whose impact extends into today’s ecology movement.
