Accommodation near Lake Constance

It’s an easy decision to choose Lake Constance as your holiday destination – after all, Germany’s largest lake near the Alps offers a unique panorama and many day trip destinations. However, where to stay? In a hotel, a pub that offers accommodation or a small bed and breakfast? Are there many holiday apartments, and are there good campsites for outdoor fans?

Don’t worry: the variety of accommodation near Lake Constance is huge. Somewhere between Lindau, Konstanz and Bregenz, you are bound to find a hotel or a bed and breakfast that meets your requirements: Self-caterers traditionally prefer a Holiday Apartments; people who enjoy being pampered tend to book a Hotel. However, independent of which kind of accommodation you prefer, you should book it well in advance, as this is an extremely popular holiday region.

Family holiday near Lake Constance

Especially for families, Lake Constance is a brilliant destination: older children can go surfing on or swimming in the lake in the summer, and the younger members of the family always almost love a boat trip across the upper lake, the “Obersee”. The extensive childcare offers in the many family-friendly hotels allow Mum and Dad to enjoy some time on their own, and to spend the afternoon on a cosy picnic, for example.

Of course, the Lake Constance region also offers various activities that can be enjoyed by all the family – after all, you don’t go on a family holiday only to end up going your separate ways. Why not book a guided city tour (for example the Fairy Tale Tour in Lindau), or spend the day at one of the numerous Public Beaches on the shores of Lake Constance.

As agriculture has always played an important role in the Lake Constance region, holidays on a working farm are another popular alternative. Dozens of farms, especially in the hinterland of the Allgäu, are just waiting to welcome young and old.

Hiking and cycling in the Lake Constance region

Lake Constance and the glorious Alps right outside your door: activity holiday fans will really find everything they could wish for here. Innumerable kilometres of cycling and hiking routes invite you to go on extended tours, and there are also choices suitable for beginners; after all, there are plenty of short routes that are great for families with younger children and of course also mountain bike routes for the more adventurous.

Probably the most popular amongst the many cycle routes at the foot of the Alps is the “Bodensee-Radweg”. It runs once around Lake Constance, a distance of 273 kilometres – through towns and villages, past beaches, natural landscapes and impressive buildings like the baroque church in Birnau, a pilgrimage church The “Bodensee-Königssee-Radweg” route is slightly more challenging. It runs 440 kilometres from one lake to the other. However, as this is considered quite a challenging route even for more experienced cycling fans, the not-so-experienced are well advised to attempt it one bit at a time.

Short breaks in the Lake Constance region

You only have a few days for a short break in the Lake Constance region? Then don’t make the mistake of wanting to see absolutely all of the many attractions the so-called “Vierländer” (‘four country’) region has to offer into just one weekend. Others don’t even manage to do this in four weeks. Choose the town that you would like to visit, Konstanz, Bregenz, Meersburg, Lindau or one of the many cosy smaller communities, then focus completely on what’s on offer locally and in the surrounding region.

If you only have 48 Hours or less for your Lake Constance short break, you shouldn’t your waste time with travelling to and from day trip destinations. However, you should of course still take in a short day trip to one of the islands, Lindau, Mainau or Reichenau. That is why we recommend the town of Lindau as the perfect destination for a first trip to the Lake Constance region (as the island of Lindau is conveniently included!), or Konstanz, which is situated near the island of Reichenau.

Spa holidays in the Lake Constance region

Spa offers around Lake Constance – they’re bound to be expensive, aren’t they? No they aren’t – even though some of the regions on the shores of Germany’s biggest lake are generally known as luxury retreats. Most of the spa offers here are aimed at average earners, yet they are still luxurious treats. After all, that is what spa hotels are all about.

Most of the recommendations on our website are for Spa facilities and baths here in Lindau by Lake Constance, although spa offers that promise pure relaxation are of course available in all of the larger communities in the “Vierländer” region. People who are really looking to improve their health should opt for one of the numerous Kneipp treatments on offer. However, due to the stimulating climate, the area is primarily visited by health spa visitors of the younger generation.
