The legendary Sparkasse Marathon passes through the three countries that border Lake Constance. This year it takes place on 9 October 2016. Over 10,000 runners will be at the starting line on Lindau’s Harbour Promenade.
Sparkasse Marathon connects
In this 9th edition of the Sparkasse Marathon, the route will take them through three different countries. The start is at 11.00 am on Lindau’s Harbour Promenade. Runners then follow the shores of Lake Constance for 6 kilometres to Bregenz. After passing the floating stage used in the Bregenzer Festspiele, they continue on to Wettingen-Mehrerau Abbey. Fortunately they don’t have to stop and show their passports at the border! The guards wave them over the Swiss-Austrian border with jingling cow bells. From St Margarethen in Switzerland they return over the Rhine Dam to finish in the stadium at Bregenz. The event includes 5 different races. If the 42.195-kilometre (26-mile) Sparkasse Marathon is a little too far for you, why not opt for one of the shorter races: the Skinfit Half-Marathon, Quarter Marathon or Walking Route with distances of 21 or 11 km. Or share the marathon distance between four runners and enter a relay team.
Sports and active fair during the marathon
The sports fair, distributtion of the starting numbers, late registration Pasta Party and Health Symposium move into the Festspielhaus Bregenz while the Inselhalle Lindau will be completely modernized and significantly extended until June 2017.
You can register for the Sparkasse Marathon and the other races on the marathon website. We recommend that runners and spectators to take the ferry from Bregenz to Lindau.
