Every year in June, Lindau hosts the Seglertage (Sailing Days), which also includes the nightly long-distance regatta Rund Um. In 2021, the regatta will take place from 4 to 6 June, when the event celebrates its 70th anniversary.
Due to the current Corona pandemic, Rund Um will be held as a day regatta on 25 September this year.
Largest regatta at Lake Constance
With the “Rund Um” the biggest sailing event at Lake Constance takes place in Lindau. More than 400 sailing boats compete every year to cover the demanding route across the lake as quickly as possible.
The special thing about it is that the mass start at Lindau harbour is towards the west into the setting sun, the boats are on the move all night long. At the long-distance regatta organised by the Lindauer Segler-Club, the Blue Ribbon of Lake Constance is sailed out.
The route of the "Rund Um"
The sailing route around Lake Constance, covers a distance of 100 kilometres for the large yachts and a shorter distance for the small ones. The time limit is 24 hours.
The “Lange Bahn” for groups 1 and 2 starts in Lindau and has its railway marks in Romanshorn, Eichhorn, Überlingen and at the Lindau bell striking station. The short regatta course for group 3 also starts in Lindau and has its lane markings in Romanshorn, Eichhorn and at the Lindau carillon. The finish line for both groups is the pier of the Lindau Sailing Club (LSC).
All keel boats from a size of 6.50 metres upwards are eligible to participate. The crew must consist of at least 3 members and of course be seaworthy.
Due to the Corona pandemic, the Lindauer Segler-Club e.V. has decided to postpone Rund Um to 25 September 2021. This means that the 70th anniversary race will be moved from early summer to autumn. As the nights are much longer in September and the risk for a night race increases significantly, Rund Um will exceptionally take place as a day regatta this year. Therefore, the sailors will start in the morning, and not in the evening as usual. The Lindauer Segler-Club e.V. will probably open the registration portal on 01 July 2021.
Information for spectators
The starting signal for the regatta usually goes off on Friday at 7:30 pm.
For the spectators ashore, there will be a festive programme for three days: A maritime flea market, music, entertainment as well as good food and drink invite you to watch and linger. Detailed information on the event and the supporting programme can be found in the programme flyer, which will be available for download as soon as all the information has been confirmed.
