Are you visiting Lindau for the first time and have about 48 hours? With our 2-day plan you can get to know the island city best. We show you the sights of the city and much more around Lindau and at Lake Constance. You will be enthusiastic!

Day 1: Explore the island

Start the day with a tour of the Lindau Island and marvel at the sights and historic buildings. From April to October, public guided tours of the city are offered every Tuesday and Friday, and in summer also on weekends. If you are not in Lindau on these days, then please take our walking tour guide. He will give you an orientation guide and describe the top sights of the island.

Afterwards, you can enjoy a typical Bavarian meal in a cosy restaurant near MaximilianstraĂźe or on the harbour promenade before continuing on your bike. The “Gasthaus zum SĂĽnfzen” is steeped in history and belongs to the island. Also the “Gasthaus Stift” or the beer and wine tavern Engel have hearty Bavarian dishes on the menu.

If you do not have a bike with you, borrow one. On the island you can rent a bike from Unger Fahrrad and Rad-Insel and start the panoramic bike tour directly. The 25.6 km long tour leads along the shore of Lake Constance from Lindau via Wasserburg and Nonnenhorn into the Lindau hinterland to Bodolz. There are 7 viewpoints with deckchairs at various stations, inviting you to relax. You will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of Lake Constance and the surrounding area when you master the 253 metres in altitude.

Back from the tour, you should look for a restaurant for dinner around 6 p.m. at the latest, before marvelling at the dancing puppets of the Lindau Marionette Opera on the stage of the City Theatre in the evening. If there is no performance that evening, we suggest a visit to the Lindauer Casino Bayerische Spielbank. Perhaps you will have luck in the game? In any case you will be rewarded – with a unique view of the lake and the bordering countries.

Day 2: By boat to the Pfänder

In the morning we take the boat from Lindau to Bregenz. Once there, you walk from Bregenz harbour to the valley station of the Pfänder mountain railway in five minutes. All sporty people can also walk the way up to the summit. The Pfänderbahn makes it easier and faster to reach the top of the mountain in just a few minutes.

Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a view of the lake and the surrounding area and can get to know dwarf goats, ibexes, marmots and pot-bellied pigs in the Alpine Animal Park. A well-developed network of paths invites you to a 1 ½ hour round trip over the Pfänderspitze, on to Moosegg and Sorgen back to the top station. Of course you can also cover longer distances. Once down in Bregenz it is worthwhile to have a look at our Austrian neighbouring town before you head back to Lindau by boat.

A visit to Lindau would be unthinkable without a stop at a traditional Lindau wine tavern or a “Rädle“. Besides self-produced wine or must, a “Rädle”, a farm or estate bar also offers a hearty snack in a cosy atmosphere. There are three Rädle in Lindau: The “Schönauer Rädle” in Kellereiweg 30 and “Das Degelstein” in Schachener StraĂźe 213 and the Rädle from the Haug Winery in Schönau. If the Rädle are closed, we recommend the wine bar “Zur Fischerin” in LudwigstraĂźe 50 or the small vinotheque in LudwigstraĂźe at Reichsplatz.
